We all have something to say, our own stories to tell. Have you ever thought of using a podcast as your outlet to connect with the world or to just tell your story? Well let Sinco5podcast share our experience with starting a podcast and of course give some pointers on starting your own.
Why did Ariel the voice behind Sinco5podcast start his own podcast?
He likes entertainment and he loves to tell stories of course! So why not share it on a platform that can reach so much more persons.
Sometimes we may be having a discussion, and there may not be people who we relate to that well within that space at that moment. What better way to have and share that discussion, than on a platform that can be shared and replayed as many times as one wishes.
How to start?
- As an advice, ensure you do your research on how it all works.
- Figure out what you want to focus on with your podcast. Have an idea what you want to discuss, what you want to do, & what you want your audience to get from it.
Sinco5 Podcast is not limited in its topics. It may cover any number of topics: food, fashion, sports, passion; any array of topics.
- Ensure you use a reliable hosting site. Sinco5 Podcast is hosted by Buzzsprout. However, there are may more to choose from. Most hosting sites will give access to apps that are searchable e.g googlepodcast, stitcher, etc.
Is it hard to get into podcasting?
Hard is relative, but not in our opinion.
Hardest part may be growing the listenership. The task of getting to reach as many as possible is one of the things that require much effort.
Growing listenership
There are many ways Sinco5 Podcast has used to improve on this element:
- Grow the listenership organically. Do your work, and your own network (the people you know) will be willing to share. If they are interested, they will support you and help to put your material out there. The more they share, the more persons it will reach and the sharing will continue.
- Keep regularity. Try to make the effort to keep producing/posting as often or regular as possible. This will help create a loyal audience who looks forward to your podcast, whether weekly or monthly, etc. Of course, this will encourage them to share just the same. We do live in a time of likes and shares, viral posts of the internet. So the more you get out there, the more goes out there!
Monetization
It can be monetized. So at anytime you may turn this passion/hobby into a profit. Once again research is the main aide in success of this.
Podcasting community
There is a large community of podcasters, in the world through social media. Even in Jamaica, it is becoming a growing trend, with many persons starting their own recently.
So you can join in these communities and learn and help grow your listenership.
Tools, equipment, space
You can buy the equipment (recording devices, microphone ,etc), find your space.If you check online, do your research there is a whole array of tools to assist in your production.
Also, you may choose to use a studio to record the sessions. We use a studio, because of our own preference. For us, it provides a clear, crisper sound than we would have produced in our own space. As well as a quiet space.
